Nathaniel Russell House
ca. 1808
51 Meeting Street
Charleston, South Carolina
This National Historic Landmark is a house museum owned by Historic Charleston Foundation and is considered one of the finest neoclassical houses in America. Paint analysis revealed a rich palette of decorative painting to include the highly ornamental plaster cornices, door and window architraves, faux mahogany grained doors and trompe l'oeil cornice in the stairhall. A new rear gift shop and educational area were incorporated into the former kitchen house making the museum more accessible while keeping the historic fabric intact.
